Eliza Titus Society

Eliza Titus Society logo

The year was 1865 when Miss Eliza Titus bequeathed her small estate to the Ladies Society of Saint Barnabas House in gratitude for the care they gave her during a long illness. A mere two years later, in 1867, by an act of the New Jersey Legislature, The Hospital of Saint Barnabas became the first incorporated hospital in the state. Now as one of the region’s oldest and largest nonprofit, nonsectarian hospitals, Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) owes its existence in part to Miss Titus and to the many individuals who, as members of the Eliza Titus Society, have helped to build and sustain SBMC.

Will you join this group of visionaries?

You can become a member of the Eliza Titus Society simply by including a bequest to SBMC in your will or estate plan or by:

  • establishing a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust
  • making SBMC the beneficiary of a retirement plan, life insurance policy, commercial annuity, bank account or investment.

As a member of the Eliza Titus Society your name will be displayed on the Eliza Titus Society donor wall in the main lobby of the Medical Center. Members may choose to remain anonymous.

SBMC will keep you informed of how your investment is being used by sending you biannual updates from SBMC’s President and CEO, Stephen P. Zieniewicz, on new programs and services. Members-only seminars and special tours of new clinical areas and programs will be held throughout the year.
